Bill ASBAHR

William R. Asbahr (Cathlamet, Washington).  Born: July 7, 1945. Died: June 5, 1993.  After graduating from Grant, Bill settled on Puget Island where he became a longtime resident. He was known locally as an avid sportsman, carpenter, builder, and craftsman.


Terry BELLERBY

Terence Michael Bellerby (Lincoln City, Oregon).  Born: March 26, 1945.  Died: January 30, 2013. After  graduating from Grant, Terry earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Oregon State University. After college, he worked for the Bonneville Power Administration until his retirement.  In 1992, he was among the Thousand Points of Light federal community-civil service award recipients honored at the White House.  As an active participant in a number of charitable organizations and clubs, Terry also enjoyed helping and serving people throughout the community.


Joe BIEGLER

Joseph Michael Biegler (Portland, Oregon).  Born: November 14, 1945.  Died: May 24, 1963.  Joe was born in Salem, Oregon and came to Portland as a youngster.  As we gathered for graduation ceremonies at Civic Auditorium on June 6th, 1963, we nervously checked the commencement programs to make sure that: (a) we were actually on the list and (b) our names were spelled right. Several of us noticed that Joe's name was missing but we didn't know why.  Much later, we learned the reason Joe never made it across the stage that evening was because, less than two weeks before, he'd died from a broken neck injury sustained when he dove off a large rock formation and hit an unseen sand bar.

Stuart Melville  Brown (Lake Oswego, Oregon).  Born: July 3, 1945. Died: June 3, 2013.  After graduating from Grant, Stu earned a bachelor’s degree from Oregon State University and later received his J.D. from the University of Oregon, where he served as editor-in-chief of the law review and was a member of the National Moot Court Team.   At the time of his death, he was an attorney with the Wiles Law Group in Portland, specializing in commercial litigation involving business entity governance and construction defects as well as transactional work for energy startup firms. He was also an arbitrator for court-mandated arbitration in the Multnomah County Circuit Court and a member of the California, Oregon, and Washington State Bar Associations.  In addition, he was admitted to practice in Federal District Courts in California, Oregon, and the Western District of Washington and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.  Stu was a champion rower and a member of the U.S., Canadian, and World Championship boating teams for the Willamette Rowing Club.   He was an Eagle Scout and parent volunteer for the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts of America and served on the Board of Directors for the Portland Classical Chinese Garden.  Stu died as the result of a heart attack suffered during rowing practice on the Willamette River, in preparation for the 2013 World Rowing Championships in Italy.


Frank CANTERBURY

Frank A. Canterbury (Astoria, Oregon).  Born: June 26, 1945. Died: March 19, 2003.  Frank was born in Astoria and later moved to Portland.  After graduating from Grant, he served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and worked in the Fred Meyer maintenance department for 20 years.


Peggy CARSTENSEN Stamm

Margaret Ann "Peggy" Carstensen Stamm (Seattle, Washington).  Born: January 24, 1945.  Died: June 9, 2008.  While at Grant, Peggy was selected as an American Field Service exchange student to study in Luxembourg during her junior year. She later attended Stanford University, earning a B.A. in mathematics and economics.  She initially worked as a computer systems analyst in Boston, Seattle, and Atlanta, subsequently becoming the co-owner and partner of Seattle’s popular Madison Park Café, a career she pursued for nearly 20 years.  Peggy was a noted tennis player and served on numerous school committees and civic organizations, including the board of the Seattle Tennis Club, National Parents Board of Directors for Stanford University, and the board of the Stanford/Washington Alumni Association.


Ted COURTRIGHT

Robert "Ted" Courtright (Eugene, Oregon). Born: November 3, 1945. Died: September 2, 2005.
After graduation, Ted served in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1969 as an electrical technician. In addition to Portland, he lived in Grants Pass, New Mexico and Fairbanks and Anchorage, Alaska before moving to Eugene.  He later worked as an electrical technician setting up remote stations for the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and was a recipient of the BLM's Valor Award for exemplary and heroic service. Among other activities, Ted enjoyed woodworking, camping, hiking, and exploring.


Steve ESH

Stephen "Ace" Ronald Esh (The Dalles, Oregon).  Born: May 30, 1945.  Died: July 13, 2012.  After graduating from Grant, Steve spent a year at Portland State University and subsequently enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he flew in planes as a forward observer, reporting troop movements. He attained the rank of First Lieutenant and was awarded a Purple Heart, two Silver Stars, a Bronze Star, and an Air Medal. 


Frieda FEHRENBACHER

Frieda Marlene Fehrenbacher (Philadelphia,  Pennsylvania). Born: ? 1945.  Died: January 21, 2000.  Frieda was an accomplished musician as well as an artist, having studied violin for 14 years while growing up in Portland. After receiving a B.A. in painting and drawing from Portland State University and an M.F.A. from Syracuse University, she pursued a career as a college professor, teaching drawing and design at the Moore College of Art & Design, an independent women’s art school in Philadelphia. Her own work was exhibited at a number of galleries in and around Philadelphia, and she was the first Moore College faculty member to receive the Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback Award for distinguished teaching.  As a tribute to Frieda, Moore College selects two outstanding members of each year’s graduating class to receive The Frieda M. Fehrenbacher Foundation Award


Toby GREEN

Melvin "Toby" Green (Portland, Oregon).  Born: September 7, 1945. Died: September 8, 1970.  After graduating from Grant, Toby attended Portland State University.  He worked in the Tektronix quality control division, enjoyed coaching Little League baseball, and served in the Oregon National Guard. In August 1970, he was participating in a two-week National Guard training session at Fort Lewis, Washington, when he was severely injured in a two-car head-on collision near Tacoma that ultimately resulted in his death the following month.


Doug GRIMES

Gerald Douglas Grimes (Portland, Oregon).  Born: January 30, 1946. Died: February 28, 1976.  Doug was born in Washington, DC and came to Portland as a child.  After graduating from Grant, he earned a bachelor's degree at Portland State University.  He later pursued a career in business, becoming the co-owner and operator of Primes Service Stations, Inc. and participating in a campaign to promote dealer-operated service stations. 


Janet GRUNT Clampitt

Janet Marie Grunt Clampitt (Portland, Oregon).  Born: ? 1945. Died: June 7, 1972.  After graduating from Grant, Janet worked for the U.S. Post Office.  Just before midnight on June 7, 1972, she returned from work and parked her car in front of her parents' home in Northeast Portland.  According to police, Janet was shot three times by an assailant who had hidden in the trunk of her car.  Although Janet's husband was sought under a District Court warrant charging him with the crime and later turned himself in to police, the ultimate resolution of this case is not known.


Hilda HICKS McClung

Hilda Ann Hicks McClung (Fall River, Oregon).  Born: January 31, 1945.  Died: September 9, 2010.   In the mid-1970s, Hilda married and raised a family. She and her family later moved to Milwaukie, Oregon, where they resided until retiring to the Bend area in 1997.  In 1989, Hilda received a B.A. from Portland State University. 



Bill HULDEN

William Martin Hulden (Lake Oswego, Oregon).  Born: July 23, 1945.  Died: July 9, 2011.  After graduating from Grant, Bill attended the University of California (Los Angeles).  He later became a partner in Hulden Tour and Travel and one of Portland's two favorite pickle companies, the popular Mrs. Neusihin's Pickles, before retiring in 2007.  Among other pursuits, Bill enjoyed travel, music, art, poetry. and Formula One Racing.


Bill IRWIN

William Edward Irwin  (Portland, Oregon).  Born: December 29, 1944.  Died: August 11, 1966.  Bill attended Clark College in Vancouver after graduating from Grant.  He joined the U.S. Army in the summer of 1965 and was deployed to Vietnam the following spring.  Several months later, he was killed by a hostile explosive device that detonated on a rifle range near Saigon.


Linda JACKSON Moore

Linda Jean Jackson Moore (Bend, Oregon).  Born: September 12, 1945.  Died: October 23, 2011.  We will always remember Linda as our 1963 Rose Festival Queen.  Following graduation from the University of Oregon, she went on to teach English at Beaverton High School and Portland Community College   After moving to Bend with her family, Linda administered the Saturday Academy Program at Central Oregon Community College and served on the boards of a number of local community organizations.


Raeann JACOBSEN Schnacky

Raeann Mary Jacobsen Schnacky (Scotts Mills, Oregon).  Born: December 27, 1945.  Died: March 12, 2008.  After graduating from Grant, Raeann became the owner-operator of Hands-On Training, a computer program development and training company.  She later served as a comptroller for a grain company in Oregon City for 20 years before moving to Scotts Mills in 2005.


Rick JONES

Richard Lee Jones (Portland, Oregon).  Born: November 27, 1944.  Died: April 7, 1998.   Rick was born in Portland. After graduation, he served in both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Marine Corps in Vietnam. He was a past co-owner of Portland's rock concert venue Earth Tavern and later worked as a security guard for Kaiser Permanente.


Greg JOSSELYN

Gregory Spencer Josselyn (Keizer, Oregon).  Born: April 2, 1945. Died: March 16, 2007.  Greg was born in New York City and moved to Portland as a teenager.  After graduating from Grant, he earned a bachelor's degree from Portland State University and subsequently served in the U.S. Air Force.  He later lived in Portland, Eugene, and Medford before moving to Keizer, where he became a trust officer for Pioneer Trust Bank.


Gary KELLY

Gary Kelly (Gresham, Oregon).  Born: July 27, 1945.  Died: September 6, 2011.  After graduating from Grant, Gary began a 25-year career in the grocery business that included managing several Portland area Albertsons, Thriftway,  and IGA stores. He later changed careers and spent the remainder of his professional life marketing insurance and investment products to a range of business and individual clients throughout Oregon.


bill kennedy

William D. Kennedy (Eugene, Oregon). Born: March 9, 1945.  Died: December 24, 2013. Bill was born in Portland, Oregon.   After Grant, he attended Portland State and became a police officer, following in the footsteps of his father, uncle, and brother. He joined the Lane County Sheriff's Office in 1966 and had a remarkable career spanning 30 years. Bill started as a patrol officer and was promoted to a detective, taking on undercover assignments including homicide, robbery, and  assault. He was temporarily assigned to the Los Angeles Police Department in the robbery and homicide division for training and implementation of homicide investigation techniques. Bill was also trained in investigative hypnosis and become a licensed polygraph examiner. He then coordinated the narcotics team, spent several years in the Community Corrections Center, and subsequently became the lead crisis hostage negotiator for the SWAT team. After retiring in 1995, Bill established a private investigation business, Kennedy & Associates, and went on to serve as a volunteer for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and as a founding member of Team Adam and the Amber Alert program. He was honored at a reception at the White House in 2006 for his exceptional work reuniting families after Hurricane Katrina. Bill and his wife May-Ree loved to travel, often surprising each other with secret trips to Ireland, England, Europe, South America, North Africa, Mexico, and the Caribbean.


Dave LENZEN

David Michael Lenzen (Scapoose, Oregon).  Born: March 19, 1945.  Died: July 26, 2011.
  After graduating from Grant, Dave joined the U.S. Marine Corps. He subsequently became a crane operator for Metro Machinery & Rigging and later for Campbell Crane & Rigging Service (both in Portland).
 


Edith LOSTRUM Latulippe

Edith Corinne Lostrum Latulippe (Escondido, California).  Born: July 7, 1945.  Died: April 26, 1993.  Edith was born in Virginia, Minnesota and moved to Portland as a child. While at Grant, she was active in the Future Teachers of America and went on to earn her B.A. in education from Portland State University.  She moved to Escondido in 1970 and taught at Orange Glen Grade School and later became an adjunct education faculty member for the Palomar Community College District.


Sue MALONE Hibschman

Susan Fern Malone Hibschman (Eugene, Oregon).  Born: July 2, 1945.  Died: October 26, 2000.  Sue headed to Los Angeles after graduation and remained there for an extended period.  She missed Oregon and decided to return, moving to Corvallis to begin studying marine biology at Oregon State University.  She later moved to Eugene and transferred to the University of Oregon, where she changed her major to communications.  After graduating, she worked at Eugene's local community television station and also designed costumes for movie production companies that were filming on location in the area.  The photo at left shows Sue at a Mayan dig on Roatan Island, Honduras.


Diane MARKS Vaughan

Diane Marks Vaughan (New York City).  Born: November 29, 1945.  Died: May 3, 2010.  Diane attended Oregon State University and spent her junior year at St. Clare's Hall, Oxford, England. She then moved to Vancouver, British Columbia, where she earned a B.A. in English from Simon Fraser University.  After relocating to Washington, D.C., she became a grant writer for nonprofit organizations and then made a career change, joining Citibank/Citicorp, where she eventually became a Citicorp vice president.  Diane later worked in marketing for The New Yorker and Travel Holiday magazines. She had a deep interest in politics and devoted considerable time working for several presidential campaigns.  Diane also made a special effort to stay in touch with many of her Grant classmates who relocated to the East Coast.


Ginny MINKS Christman

Virginia "Ginny" Irene Minks Christman (Salem, Oregon).  Born: June 14, 1945.  Died: January 30, 2010. Ginny was born in was born in Madera, California and moved to Portland as a child.  She was active in the Marion-Polk Foster Parent Association, First United Methodist Church, and Willamette District Boy Scouts of America.  In addition to raising her own daughters, Ginny was a  parent to over 75 foster children.


Lynda MORRIS Leary

Lynda Lee Morris Leary (Gresham, Oregon).  Born: March 13, 1945.  Died: April 7, 1995.   After receiving a B.A.in English from the University of Portland, Lynda became a freelance journalist, writing for the Oregon Business Journal, Spectrum Magazine, The Oregon Journal, The Oregonian, and the Oregon Historical Society.  She also authored several books, including A History of Columbia River Estuaries.  At the time of her death, Lynda was a staff writer for the Beaverton Valley Times.


marilee moss

Marilee A. Moss (Portland, Oregon). Born: July 11, 1945.  Died: November 13, 1964.  Classmates will remember Marilee as Princess Marilee, a member of the Rose Festival Court (May Court).  She was also active in the senior choir and was an accomplished pianist, She died at the age of nineteen from chronic nephritis, a kidney disease. Bob Ness sang a beautiful solo of the Lord's Prayer at her funeral service. 


Fred NIEDERMARK

Frederick John Niedermark (Portland, Oregon).  Born: February 10, 1945.  Died: July 22, 2001.  After graduating from Grant, Fred was self-employed in the janitorial service industry and was working as a laborer for a temporary employment agency at the time of his death.


Jim OLSEN

James Edward Olsen (Portland, Oregon).  Born: ? 1945.  Died: August 18, 1963.  Jim was an enthusiastic player on the Grant 1962-63 varsity basketball team.  He graduated with the Class of 1963 in June and had his eye on attending Oregon State University in the fall.  However, a mere two months after commencement, he died in a tragic automobile accident that also injured several '63 classmates.


LaVonne PETERSON witcher

LaVonne Elnora Peterson Witcher (Vancouver, Washington).  Born: January 18, 1945.  Died: April 17, 1983.  Members of the class may remember that LaVonne was the twin sister of LaVerne, who graduated with her in June 1963.  After graduation, LaVonne married and raised a family and later became a loan officer for the Rivergate Federal Credit Union in the Rivergate Industrial Park in Portland.  Tragically, she died in an early Sunday morning auto accident near Ridgefield, Washington.  It was reported that the Clark County Sheriff's Department charged her husband (the driver) with negligent homicide; however, the final disposition of the charge is not known.


Jerry PIERCE

Jerrold Nehl Pierce (Eugene, Oregon).  Born: December 22, 1944.  Died: November 27, 2007.  Jerry was born in La Grande, Oregon and moved to Portland as a youngster.  After graduating from Grant, he earned both a bachelor's and a master's degree in business.  He joined the U.S. Marine Corps, attaining the rank of full Colonel and was one of three Pierce brothers—Jerry, Merrick, and Byron—all of whom served in the Marines.  Jerry subsequently became a Senior Special Agent for the seven western states in the Criminal Investigations Division of the Internal Revenue Service (U.S. Treasury Department) and played an instrumental role in the investigations of a number of high-profile tax evasion cases.  He was an experienced pilot and eventually went into business for himself as a licensed private investigator providing aerial reconnaissance, aircraft accident investigation, aviation investigation, and computer forensics services.  He was cast as a pilot in the film Puerto Vallarta Squeeze, a 2004 crime thriller produced by noted Eugene area broadcasting entrepreneur and philanthropist Carolyn Chambers.  Jerry later served as executive in charge of production for another Chambers film, The Sisters, released in 2005 and based on Anton Chekov's The Three Sisters.


Bonnie PRESTON Spaulding

Bonnie Lorraine Preston Spaulding (Long Beach, Washington). Born: January 22, 1945. Died: November 25, 2012. Bonnie graduated from the School of Radiology at Oregon Health Sciences University and began a 40-year career as a radiology technician with emphasis on mammography.  She was employed at hospitals in Portland and Seattle prior to moving to the Long Beach Peninsula where she worked at Ocean Beach Hospital for over 17 years.  She particularly enjoyed music and was a patron and season ticket holder of the Oregon Symphony Orchestra.  Bonnie remained in close touch with many of her Grant '63 classmates and looked forward to getting together with them each year.


Dave RALPH

David James Ralph (Clackamas, Oregon).  Born: January 10, 1945.  Died: July 19, 2004.   Dave was born in San Pedro, California and moved to Oregon as a youngster. After graduating from Grant, he pursued a construction career, eventually becoming a carpenter for R&H Construction Company in Portland.


Ron RAMBERG

Ronald Wayne Ramberg (Portland, Oregon).  Born: July 17, 1945.  Died: May 15, 1994.  Ron was born in Tacoma, Washington and moved to Portland at the age of three.  After earning a degree in architecture, he spent the next quarter century as an architect with the Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Partnership in Portland.


Judi REED Calder

Judith Ann Reed Calder (North Bend, Oregon).  Born: July 12, 1945.  Died:  August 3, 2008.   Judi was born in Grand Island, Nebraska and moved to Portland as a child.  After graduating from Grant, she attended the University of Oregon.  She later became a customer service representative for Portland's legendary Boyd Coffee Company, a position she held for 22 years.  After retiring from Boyd, Judi moved to North Bend in 2000.


Karla SCHMID Javier

Karla Ann Schmid Javier (Portland, Oregon).  Born: ? 1945.  Died: December 7, 1969.  After graduating from Grant, Karla worked for Pacific Northwest Bell Telephone Company.  According to Multnomah County Sheriff's deputies, late on Sunday evening, December 7, 1969, she was shot at close range with a 12-gauge shotgun in the bedroom of a Southeast Portland home she shared with her fiancé. Although initially charged with the crime, Karla's fiancé was subsequently acquitted the following year by a Multnomah County Circuit Court jury.


Phil SIEGELBAUM

Phillip R. Siegelbaum (Portland, Oregon).  Born: October 26, 1945.  Died:September 27, 2009.  After graduating from Grant, Phil worked in sales and marketing—initially selling magazines door-to-door and later starting his own advertising and marketing company, Sports Score, catering to the bowling and golf industries. His company branched out, becoming Western Specialty Products, and produced a wide variety of products such as neighborhood real estate guides and supermarket display boards. 


Art SIMON

Arthur Robert Simon (Los Angeles, California).  Born: December 14, 1944.  Died: November 1, 1991.  After graduating from Grant, Art attended the University of Oregon and the California College of the Arts.  In 1979, he moved to Los Angeles, where he launched a career designing parties and premieres for major events such as the California Governor's Ball, the Academy Awards, the Emmys, and the San Francisco Opera Ball.  He frequently donated his skills to various charitable events sponsored by organizations such as the City of Hope, The Thalians, and SHARE.


Steve SOLOMON

Stephen Lee Solomon (Eugene, Oregon).  Born: April 15, 1945. Died: November 24, 2012. Steve was the entrepreneurial founder of the former Dog House Restaurant in Portland as well as the currently operating Dog in a Box restaurant in Eugene.


Judy STADHEIM

Judy Diane Stadheim (Littleton, Colorado).  Born: May 5, 1945. Died:  October 26, 2004.  Judy earned both a B.A. and an M.A. in business education from Oregon State University.  She went on to teach junior high and high school classes in the Kirkland, Washington area prior to joining IBM. She began her IBM career in marketing support in the company's Boise, Idaho office and was subsequently promoted to IBM's Information Development group in Boulder, Colorado. She later moved to Denver, working first as a systems engineer and then in various printing specialist sales positions until her retirement.  Judy is remembered for being a positive influence for others who were diagnosed with breast cancer. She encouraged countless women to pick up and move on in their lives with enthusiasm and a zest for life, and many of the women she helped contacted her in the last weeks of her life to tell her how much they appreciated what she had done for them. 


Judy SULLIVAN Browning

Judith Ann Sullivan Browning (Forest Grove, Oregon).  Born: August. 20, 1945.  Died: May 2, 2006.  After Grant, Judy earned an arts and letters B.A. from Portland State University, with a minor in Arabic.  She later attended Portland Community College, receiving an associate degree as a legal assistant.  Over the years, Judy took on a wide range of assignments---secretary at Portland State University; executive assistant to the president of Gray & Company in Forest Grove; accountant for Hazelnut Growers in Cornelius; secretary and administrative assistant to technology entrepreneur Tom Holce; legal assistant and probate paralegal for the Frost & Kohl law firm in Hillsboro; and as a legal assistant, office manager, and probate paralegal for her husband's law practice.  She played a key role in organizing community support for what became Talisman Park in Forest Grove.  She was also the former president of the Forest Grove-Nuyzen Sister City Association and was active in the Hillsboro-Fukuroi Japan Sister City Association.  Judy particularly enjoyed planning the reunion of her Irvington Elementary School classmates as part of the 30th reunion of the Grant class of '63 in 1993.


Lovelle SVART

Lovelle Marie Svart (Portland, Oregon).  Born: January 31, 1945. Died: September 28, 2007.   After graduating from Grant, Lovelle attended college in the early 1960s.  She later joined the staff of The Oregonian as a research librarian, contributing to numerous articles over her 20-year career at the newspaper.  One of the news projects she contributed to was a series on problems in the federal Immigration and Naturalization Service which won the 2001 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service.  Toward the end of her life, The Oregonian chronicled Lovelle's struggle with cancer in a major news series entitled Living to the End.  (Lovelle's personal videos of her final few months.)


Kris VERNSTROM Iverson

Kristine Ruth Vernstrom Iverson (Portland, Oregon). Born: January 14, 1945.  Died: April 4, 2004. Kris graduated from the University of Oregon with a B.A. in economics and spent an additional year studying at the University of Stockholm, later earning an M.A. in counseling from Portland State University.  To land her first job with Portland Public Schools, she agreed to serve as a gymnastics coach, a sport about which she initially knew nothing.  During her 30-year career with the district, Kris taught high school social studies and personal finance, ultimately serving as a counselor at Benson High School for over 20 years.  Benson has honored her contribution to the school by awarding the annual Kristine V. Iverson Scholarship to a graduate who is selected on the basis of academic achievement and financial need.


Linda WHITE Frazier

Linda May White Frazier (Costa Rica).  Born: November 6, 1945. Died: May 30, 1984.  Linda was born in Washington, D.C. and moved to Portland as a child.  While at Grant, she was active in the Future Teachers of America.  After graduation, she went on to earn a B.A. in English from the University of Oregon. Linda taught for a number of years at David Douglas High School and in the Eugene School District, later becoming an information specialist for the Parkrose School District as well as a correspondent for The Oregonian.  She subsequently became an Associated Press journalist and a reporter for the English-language weekly Tico Times in Costa Rica, where her husband was Central American correspondent for the Associated Press.  While on assignment for the Tico Times, Linda was one of three people killed in the bombing of a press conference held at a guerrilla outpost in La Penca, Nicaragua on May 30, 1984.  This tragic event continues to be a flashpoint in Central American politics, as well as internationally—most recently with the 2011 release of the documentary film Last Chapter, Goodbye Nicaragua by Swedish journalist Peter Torbiörnsson.


Ben WOODS

Commander Bennett Richard Woods, USN (Ret.) (Wheaton, Illinois).  Born: June 27, 1945.  Died: August 18, 2011.  After graduating from Grant, Ben received a B.S. in chemistry from Willamette University and went on to earn an M.S. in systems management from the University of Southern California.  He subsequently pursued a 20-year career with the U.S. Navy, including two years with the flight demonstration squadron known as the Blue Angels.  His classmates will remember Ben as an enthusiastic member of the Grant boys golf team and he remained an avid golfer for the rest of his life. 


Bill WYSE

William Vann Wyse (Portland, Oregon).  Born: November 1, 1943. Died: June 4, 2008.  Bill was born in Houston, Texas and moved to Portland as a child. After graduating from Grant, he joined the U.S. Army and later became a bus driver for TriMet. In a February 2004 Portland Tribune article discussing how the city and TriMet handled the response to the big ice storm that month, he was quoted as follows: 

Bus driver William Wyse said he’s never received training for snow or ice in his 31 years with the agency.  “Since I’ve been there, they haven’t really looked to drivers,” Wyse said. “They claim they do, but the bigger problem is they have a lot of people working at TriMet who have never driven a bus in the snow.”


Jean Marie ZENGER Kilford

Jean Marie Zenger Kilford (Seaside, Oregon). Born: March 6, 1945. Died: October 6, 2010. Jeanie was born in Portland and was a member of the "Dyke" class club. While moving all over the western states with her husband and family, she enjoyed staying in touch with her "Dyke" sisters and always looked forward to the Grant reunions. Jeanie spent the last six years of her life in Seaside looking at the ocean that she loved.
